ARTIST INTERVIEW: Aakash Ramesh

City: Charlotte, North Carolina, USA (Basically from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India)
Profession: Security Analyst – IT (Freshly graduated Masters student)
Tell us a bit about your work.
My work is just an expression of what I observe, I search for things with emotions, minute details, texture and top of everything, challenges. Humans emote subconsciously and I always want to register it through my sketches. I get attracted to eyes, no matter who’s it is, because you can tell millions of stories from their eyes. I use only graphite pencils and always stick to monochrome. And mostly I prefer portraits with finer details, trying to showcase their story to the world.
How did you get into art/writing?
What are you working on next?
My ongoing work is about the dark side of a woman’s life. The emotion and expression on that face challenged me to take up the portrait. Apart from that I am working on other portraits simultaneously.
Any advice for younger artists?
Nobody is an amateur. We all are learners, don’t stop learning and never give up on your artistic side. Never get satisfied with your work. Always try to aim a challenging work, that way you will always attain perfection. Everyone has their own style, reach out to your abilities and express your thoughts.
What are your inspirations?
My source of inspiration is Facebook. Artists who showcased their works intrigues me to try something new. At first I was recreating others work, but later I wanted to create my unique signature style. So, I came up with my own techniques by observing others’ work.
Now-a-days my source of inspiration is everywhere I look into, places I travel, people I meet, culture I get introduced to, all these things keep me motivated to create something new.

A Business Analyst by profession, but more a traveller who is trying to analyse millennia of history, culture and stories across the world more than often.
I like to collect things – coins, stamps, books, autographs, and most of all action figures. Comics and pop culture has been an active influence to shape my life goals. In my free time (which I have very rarely) I like to do pencil sketching.
Secret wish – to visit every (real/inspired) place Tintin visited.
