ARTIST INTERVIEW: Anubhav Aich
Profession: Product & graphics designer, currently working at Titan Company Ltd.
Tell us a bit about your work.
I illustrate when I am not designing watches. I like telling stories with it. I sketch superheroes and similar characters I love. I try and add elements that make these characters come to life and giving equal importance to the background and the surroundings. It helps tell the story of the scene. I’ve tried the comic-ish illustration but realized, being a product designer, my core strength lies in making my subjects as realistic as possible. I experiment with different mediums, currently in love with the digital art form.
How did you get into art?
So when a child is born into an artistic family, they are automatically enrolled in these classes. My aunt was a drawing teacher, I learned it from her. Later my faculties at NIFT enhanced my skills.
But it all came to a halt as I started focusing on my career as an accessories designer. 7 years later, I am introduced to this amazing machine called the Wacom. My boss asked me to test it out. Instead of sketching a watch, I illustrated Altair from Assasin’s Creed. As I kept working on it, I explored the possibilities and the love for Superheroes grew back. Went on to sketch Gambit, Deathstroke, and Superman.
What are you working on next?
Haven’t started working on the next project, but it’s most probably going to be either Wonder Woman or Green Arrow. Looking for a story to portray.
Any advice for younger artists?
Just keep enhancing your skills. Keep an eye on the mind-blowing work the international artists do and keep pushing yourself to be the best. Put things online for feedback.
What are your inspirations?
My inspirations are these amazingly talented designers/illustrators from the internet. Their works set up a benchmark for me which I try and go beyond every time I work on something.
