ARTIST INTERVIEW: Komal Singh
City: Originally from Delhi, currently in Bangalore
Profession: Visual Designer
Tell us a bit about your work.
I observe things and express them through my art. Most of my illustrations are based on feelings and situations. My style has primarily been zentangle art but I like experimenting with different illustration styles and learning new things. I love doing manual artwork as well as digital illustrations.
How did you get into art?
As a kid, I had always been inclined towards co-curricular activities, one of them being art. My mom has been encouraging and supportive of it as she herself is an artist. I remember at times I was scolded by my school teachers as last few pages of my notebook used to be filled with doodles.
What are you working on next?
I have always been keen on learning new things, Lately, I have been trying to develop UI/UX skills.
I’m also working on a few designs for which I will be holding an exhibition soon.
Any advice for younger artists?
Well, I myself am a young artist.I feel an artist should always be on a lookout to observe, learn, gather insights and explore. If you create anything that relates to the audience that will surely be a successful creation. During all these years I have realised that 2 things are really important for an artist, one is a critic and the other is finding a mentor. Criticism and feedback from people of the same field can really help in improving your work and seeing your own work from someone else’s perspective. If you have a mentor or guidance, it makes the process of developing your skills and figuring out stuff faster.
What are your inspirations?
People, their conversations, and any pretty artwork that I come across. I like attending exhibitions, there’s always something to learn and get inspired.

By day I’m a boring old Web Developer, but as the sun goes down, I’m a SUPERHERO. Well not really I just dress up and pretend to be one.
“Centurions” was my favorite cartoon growing up and I name all my possessions “Shadow” because I can’t afford a Husky.
I camp in Games like it’s nobody’s business, and if you’ve got a problem with that I’ve got two words for ya “I’m Sorry”, cause you’re a noob.
