ARTIST INTERVIEW: Mrinal Roy
Profession: Pre- Production Artist (Animation)
Tell us a bit about your work.
I would like the say my work is mostly illustrative, semi- realistic in style influenced by both Japanese mangas and comics, professionally I mostly work in digital but also like to stick to the traditional methods for personal works. Professionally I am Pre- Production artist mostly in animation but have ventured in comics and live action sometimes.
How did you get into art?
I have been drawing ever since I could remember. I was determined to take up animation and or comics ever since I started watching anime on a regular basis when I was 11 and haven’t looked back ever since.
What are you working on next?
I am a Pre-production artist in an animation studio right now and am working on multiple projects. will probably start writing my manga’s plot again.
Any advice for younger artists?
Judge yourself, gauge the level of skill and work on improving yourself accordingly. Be your best critic. Have impossible goals because If it’s attainable it’s not good enough. Never give up, retreat and rework your method if you need to but don’t give up. See what others do to understand what to do and what not to do. see/read as many things as possible, develop a good visual library.
What are your inspirations?
My inspirations are mostly comic/manga and concept art but really it’s nothing solid because literally, anything can inspire us to come up with great ideas. I have been inspired to draw by a new brush in Photoshop and drew the image below.

By day I’m a boring old Web Developer, but as the sun goes down, I’m a SUPERHERO. Well not really I just dress up and pretend to be one.
“Centurions” was my favorite cartoon growing up and I name all my possessions “Shadow” because I can’t afford a Husky.
I camp in Games like it’s nobody’s business, and if you’ve got a problem with that I’ve got two words for ya “I’m Sorry”, cause you’re a noob.
