COSPLAYER INTERVIEW: Ankita Kemkar
Profession by day: Architect
Why do you cosplay?
What was your latest Cosplay?
‘Sakura Kinomoto’ from the anime series ‘Card Captor Sakura’ (This was one such costume that appeared only in the 2nd opening song and nowhere in the series) Sakura has been my dream cosplay and I’m so happy that I could do justice to it. P.C: Cosplayer RJ
How long did it take you to make this cosplay? Were there challenges in the design?
It took me roughly over a month’s time in total. The wig was custom styled by myself. The staff is completely handmade and it took me over 1 week to complete. Plus there were tinier details on this costume that I paid attention to, like- the embellishments and crown detailing.
The costume is completely hand stitched, the stockings & gloves and getting the puffiness right for the shorts were quite tricky!
It took me about 2 hours to get ready because I’m very specific about makeup presentation 🙂
Your favourite cosplay you’ve done so far?
Got to kick around too, so yeah! P.C: Roo Photography
What’s your favourite convention?
My favourite convention(s) would be Bangalore Comic Con & Japan Habba! It’s something about the entire crowd & crazy talented cosplay buddies who come here every year to participate
How long have you been into cosplay?
Roughly over 2 years and counting! I do a lot of Costests on a regular basis to practice Makeup which has resulted in a lot of improvements over these 2 years:
‘Clear’ from ‘DRAMAtical Murder’. P.C: Nikhil wala Photography
‘Jill Valentine’ from ‘Resident Evil’ series
‘Kagome Higurashi’ from ‘Inuyasha’. P.C: Manish Lenswork
Body painted ‘Venom’ from ‘Spider-man’, my debut cosplay at BCC’14 and also won me the Comic category that year!
‘Elsa’ from ‘Frozen’
What was your first costume? Advice for anyone just starting out?
‘Sode no Shirayuki’ from ‘Bleach’ was my first cosplay. The picture here is a comparison of 2014 vs 2015. There has been a massive improvement and it’s something I would encourage cosplayers to do, to rework on your oldest cosplay and see how much you’ve grown as an artist. It’s self-motivation rewarding you with self-satisfaction.
I would advise newbies to always check on what kind of resources would be going into your cosplay and how much labour is required to finish it. Start small and level up each year, it boosts your confidence to take up bigger projects in future 🙂
Break down requirements and analyse whether what you’re planning for is feasible or not. Spend your time researching and learning but don’t just get stuck up researching your life out of it lol know when to stop because we artists always run out of time somehow.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
From Artists, from our talented folks in cosplay communities & Professional Cosplayers from around the globe!
What are you working on next?
Something pretty ‘MAJOR’ 😉 That’s quite a hint I suppose! One of the very few female characters I absolutely LOVE!! so much that I got the cyberports tattooed on my nape 🙂 2017 shall have 2 versions of it

By day I’m a boring old Web Developer, but as the sun goes down, I’m a SUPERHERO. Well not really I just dress up and pretend to be one.
“Centurions” was my favorite cartoon growing up and I name all my possessions “Shadow” because I can’t afford a Husky.
I camp in Games like it’s nobody’s business, and if you’ve got a problem with that I’ve got two words for ya “I’m Sorry”, cause you’re a noob.
