COSPLAYER INTERVIEW: Michelle Snow
Cosplayer name: Michelle Snow
Why do you cosplay?
Cosplaying for me is a huge part of my life, to be someone else and feel completely different and confident is an indescribable feeling!. It’s therapeutic for days when I’m feeling depressed because it occupies my mind and the creative process of the cosplay brings excitement and happiness. It gives me a massive amount of confidence to take the form of a whole other character!
What was your latest Cosplay?
It was Link from Legend of Zelda series.
How long did it take you to make this cosplay? Were there challenges in the design?
It took about a week to make the shield but that’s only because I juggle my job along with my cosplay hobby. The shirt was stitched within a day or two. The biggest challenge in the design was the emblem part of the shield and actually making it look 3 dimensional rather than flat 2 dimensions.
Your favorite cosplay you’ve done so far?
I would have to say it’s a close tie between Scarecrow and Link.
What’s your favorite convention?
Definitely TwinCon. It’s a local convention with fantastic management and crowd!
How long have you been into cosplay?
I did my first cosplay in 2014 so…almost 3yrs now
What was your first costume? Advice for anyone just starting out?
It was X-23. I’d advise that open Youtube and Google and even improvise things from your own household (wardrobe items being the easiest to find). The internet it full of tutorials, follow them even if your first cosplay is not that perfect, so what?? You already did a huge thing by designing it and going in character and having fun. At the end of the day, it’s all about having fun.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
My cosplay group, those guys are amazing!! We are always discussing ideas and plans and there aren’t enough cons for all our cosplay ideas, I think we’ve managed to put decide our cosplay for the next 2 years!
What are you working on next?
Tough projects ahead, Genderbend Gladio, Wonder Woman, Junk Rat(overwatch). In the next winter convention, I’ll be doing Yurio from Yuri on ice.
