COSPLAYER INTERVIEW: Prady Das
Profession by day: Principal Software Engineer
Why do you cosplay?
I cosplay because it is super fun to create the costume for a character that I absolutely adore and also, I feel like a celebrity when people throng in line to take photos with me in my cosplay. Plus my cosplays have won me some awesome awards! So… do you still think that I need to give another reason why I cosplay?
What was your latest Cosplay?
ZENYATTA from the game OVERWATCH
How long did it take you to make this cosplay? Were there challenges in the design?
It took me around 20 days to make this cosplay. Making this costume was definitely challenging and it’s my most complicated cosplay till date. It took me around 35-40 mins to assemble this and put it on me, on both the days of Bangalore Comic Con 2016.I had to engineer a way to hang the fake legs so that it looked like real hovering legs. Also, there were two sections on my back which I had to make sure that they didn’t fall when I walked, at the con. The first section contained the 6 fake hands and the second section was the FLEX print which showed that the character ZENYATTA had a transcendent halo of his own.But it was absolutely worth it at the end.:)
Your favourite cosplay you’ve done so far?
What’s your favourite convention?
My favourite conventions- International is C2E2 (Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo) and in India, it is BCC (Bangalore Comic Con)
How long have you been into cosplay?
I have been cosplaying for 4-5 years now and here are some cosplays that I have done in the recent past:
What was your first costume? Advice for anyone just starting out?
Gabbar Singh from Sholay was my first cosplay. And my advice for all the newbies in cosplay scene is to start small with your cosplays and take it up a notch every time. Whatever you do, make sure to have fun.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
My inspiration comes from various sources like the wonderful pro international and national cosplayers, make-up artists, sfx artists, movies, people etc. Also, my parents encourage and inspire me a lot to craft my fandom. And my friends are no less either in supporting me and pushing me to give my best.
What are you working on next?
I do not have a project in mind currently but I sure can’t wait to work on my next project because not only I love cosplaying but also love the costume making journey. Whatever be my next project, I definitely plan to have fun building it and cosplaying it. Also, I do cosplay photography as well.
