Doga Web Series – Fan Casting
Recently fans of Doga were pleasantly surprised by the news that the long stalled Doga Live action project is back on, this time in the form of a Web series. Kunal Kapoor who was shortlisted by Anurag Kashyap in 2008 to play the character has been brought on board (or perhaps he never left) and will finally essay the character almost ten years in the making. This was later confirmed by Sanjay Gupta on his Facebook page as well.
This sent us at Men of Comics also in a tizzy, and even though production is yet to start (scripting officially started on the 1st of June) we got our heads together and put together what would be our dream cast for the show. Since Kunal Kapoor is already finalised we are presenting our picks for the other pivotal characters
Adrakh Chacha, Dhaniya Chacha, Haldi Chacha and Kali Mirch Chacha
Doga’s four foster-Uncles have moulded him into the Superhero that he is. Adrakh Chacha taught him body-building and increased his strength, Dhaniya Chacha was his coach for hand to hand combat, Haldi Chacha trained him in Martial arts and Kali Mirch Chacha gave him his killer aim. It would be important to have four seasoned actors for the roles of Doga’s Four Pillars of strength.
Actor for Adrakh Chacha
An actor with a strong personality and (let’s face it) a bald head would be good for this role. Our suggestions are film and TV actor Yuri Suri
Or (after his turn as Katappa) Sathyaraj since we know he packs a mean punch
Actor for Dhaniya Chacha
Dhaniya Chacha is a former wrestler and is built like an ox, so we would suggest
Or if Sunny Paaji is out of reach then Puneet Issar with a wig and moustache since he has beefed up these days
And if possible, even though he is older, he is still strong like a tree trunk – Sharat Saxena
Actor for Haldi Chacha
Haldi Chacha carries the air of a zen master, so we need an actor who has a quiet energy about him. Our suggestion is
Actor for Kali Mirch Chacha
Kali Mirch Chacha is a marksman with a look of intellect about him. A serious actor would be suited for the role. Hence Sabyasachi
Or Neeraj Kabi sans beard
Cheetah is one of the most loved characters in comics, his razor sharp detective skills as well as his friendshop with Doga have enthralled fans over the years. An ideal cop (who makes an exception in case of Wanted criminal Doga) an actor with a strong screen presence is required. Hence we suggest Randeep Hooda, who is an expert in Cop roles
Or if the series brings forth an older cynical Cheetah, then with dhina-dhin-ta we say
Of course if Anurag Kashyap would have helmed this project (assuming he isn’t now) we are sure Kay Kay Menon would have been a shoo-in for the role
Of course where would Doga be without his love interest, the social activist and part-time vigilante Monica. We need an actress who can kick butt and be sveltering hot, wishful thinking on our part but the best bet should be
Lest we forget, we also need to have someone to play Kaalu. An actor with mad intensity and the propensity to go crazy. We would suggest either of the two fine actors, Arif Zakaria and (if he does not play Cheeta) Kay Kay Menon.
Also since the series would deal with Doga’s first story, it is necessary to have his (chronologically) first Boss-villain Killota
Or of course Great Khali
