Is Thor: Ragnarok the best MCU movie?
NO, it ain’t. Granted Thor: Ragnarok is an absolute treat to watch, I was in splits during most of the scenes but then this isn’t a comedy movie. This was supposed to be a superhero movie where characters should have taken themselves a little more seriously. Some would argue that’s how Marvel does its movies but I disagree. Remember Captain America: Winter Soldier, that right there is a fine example how a superhero movie should be. It had humor but not at the expense of making a mockery out the characters or the emotions being drawn into the scenes.
The scene where Thor is convincing Valkyrie to join “Revengers” was supposed to be a powerful moment, reminding her of her oath to the throne, the sacrifices made by the legion and then boom Thor gets smacked in the face with a ball, I mean why.
My biggest issue with the movie was how great actors were underutilized, Karl Urban barely had anything to do till the very end where he redeems himself much like the comics. Idris Elba, man I wish they gave him a better job than play Moses (don’t ask). Executioner vs Heimdall, that right there would have been an epic battle, but they spoilt that.
Speaking of Executioner (Skurge), he’s a supervillain in the comics, feared, dreaded, but as Marvel has done it before with Loki, Ultron, Mandarin, and countless other Villains, he is powered down to nothing more than mere goon with a conscience.
The “Planet Hulk” storyline is heavily thrown in the movie with characters like Korg and Miek making an appearance. Hulk is almost forgettable after the first fight sequence with Thor.
Sif is missing completely. I still don’t get why they won’t mention her absence at all.
There are positives to the movie. Cate Blanchett was perfectly cast to play Hela, her origins are a little different from the Comics (She’s actually Loki’s daughter), she’s mean, unforgiving and a total badass. The battle scene where she takes on the whole Asgardian army is just a joy to watch.
This movie has problems and Marvel has done well to cover it up with great soundtracks and a bucket load of funny moments. Hell, if I didn’t know any better I would have thought this was a remake for the Music Video for the famous “Immigrant Song” by Led Zepplin.
Have you caught the movie yet? What did you think of it? Do you agree with me or do you just want to bash my face in with a Hammer? Let me know in the comments below.
