Teen Titans – Judas Contract : Review (Spoiler free)
So much among the fanfare for Justice League movies and talks around them comes a DC animated movie which performs brilliantly without making much noise – Teen Titans : Judas Contract.
I don’t follow the Teen Titans TV show but still decided to give it a shot and was pleasantly surprised. I felt it was way better than a Justice League film (also referring to Justice League Dark).
The story line is a bit confusing in the start as the characters are not much introduced and we are thrown straight into the midst of the action, but it settles to a much smoother pace 10 mins into the movie.
Characters – there are tons of superheroes in the team, we have both Nightwing and Robin with their whole whose the boss issues, Starfire as a strong female lead, Tara and Beast Boy’s love-hate relationship, Blue Beetle, Raven and others. All of them are given decent screen time and dialogues and their storylines are well introduced slowly as the movie progresses, so that it doesn’t feel forced. The villains – Brother Blood is decent, but Deathstroke is the crowing glory specially in action sequences.
Editing is decent nothing special there – there are a few places it could have been done better specially in the ending flight sequence. Direction by Sam Liu has improved compared to other Justice League movies he has directed previously.
All in all, I would highly recommend everyone to check this out – its already out on the DVDs/BluRays. I had no inkling or expectations before seeing it but now I am considering giving the Teen Titans series a shot.
